Abstract

This talk, presented by Peter Knight with help from Antoni Moore and Tahu Mackenzie responds to the 1999 Parliamentary Commissioner of the Environment's report on the Bluff Oyster fishery which poses the question, 'Where Did We Go Wrong?'

Situated in the Bluff Community where 6 months of in-dwelling by the researchers took place over more than five years, the answers to the question are a result of in-depth interviews with key informants; focus groups, and public meetings.

This talk should be of interest to those interested in socio-ecological systems; indigenous resource systems; fisheries management; traditional ecological knowledge; common pool resources and self-government.
