OPEN AND FREE TO ALL INTERESTED PARTIES
Jonathan West will be presenting based on his PhD in progress - An Environmental History of the Otago Peninsula. The presentation provides a whirlwind tour of the Peninsula's history from the arrival of Polynesians to the present day, focusing on drawing connections between processes of environmental and societal change in both Maori and Pakeha settler societies.
Jonathan West is currently writing this PhD under the supervision of Tom Brooking at the University of Otago. Previously he completed an MA here focusing on the uneasy relationship between humanism and environmental ethics, and has been employed by the Political Studies Department in a variety of capacities.
