The Centre for Sustainability | Ka Rakahau o Te Ao Turoa is a University of Otago Research Centre.

We are administratively based in the Department of Geography (Division of Humanities).

Centre for Sustainability: Agriculture, Food, Energy, Environment (CSAFE) generates high-quality research that draws from the strengths of various disciplines, and spans both theoretical and applied analysis. We collaborate closely with end-users, from communities to industry and government.   

We have a core of researchers and support staff, and create teams with other collaborators within New Zealand or internationally as required. We also have a vibrant cohort of postgraduate students, most of whom work on topics associated with existing research projects.

Our research covers the interrelated streams of Food & Agriculture; Environmental Management; and Energy.
