Dr. Ann Pomeroy has a BA (Hons) and MA in Geography from Otago University, and a PhD in Sociology from Essex University. She worked for two Ministers of Agriculture in New South Wales during the 1980s and was Manager Rural Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture (MAF) in Wellington during the 1990s. The latter work included managing a research programme on agricultural sociology, sustainable agriculture, and rural social issues. Ann then worked for the Ministry of Social Development on the policy platform for integrated contracting and then managed the operationalising of this programme. In 2007, she moved to the Department of Internal Affairs to work at the interface between central and local government. She has been an independent professional research contractor since 2010.

Ann has represented New Zealand at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). She was awarded a New Zealand Suffrage Medal in 1993 for work with rural women. She is a Vice-President of the New Zealand Geographical Society, a Trustee of New Horizons for Women Trust, and the most recent former president of the New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women (Wellington Branch).
